Yesterday I had to travel in a cab for my weekly grocery purchase. The driver was a native american. As usual he greeted and started asking questions....
The most common question taxi drivers ask you..
1. Are you from india?
2. Which part of india you are from? Bangalore.? ( most of them know bangalore, chennai)
3. How long have you been here?
4. How do you find US? Do you like it?
Mostly the conversation stops at this point, but y'day it was exceptional. The driver asked do you know why do we welcome people from all parts of the world? We get more tax from you people, so the government can provide better social service and serve the word.
I got stunned. His words banged on my thoughts. Even a taxi driver is US is concerned about his nation. Myself an engineering graduate is here in US working for US company.
Studied in India working in US directly employed/contract for a US company
We do the hard work here in US; The US companies sell those products to India ( The latest technologies are export controlled; so most of the so called latest US technology solutions what we get is actually out dated ones.)
Those technology is sold back to india at a higher cost. I feel this ashamed when I think I am also a part of this chain.
Just an example....
IBM wins $45 million contract from Indian Income Tax Department

Studied in India working for so called indian MNCs...
Not much difference I see in this case too. More than 80% of the work done by Indian IT & ITeS is for clients outside india. The only difference in this case is that the indian companies take the bigger part of the profit than the employee if he is directly employed with the US company.
ok..stop all these nonsense..why do I care about all these bullshit ? hold on dear reader..
The situation in india....famous super start dialog....Rich get richer..poor get poorer.
If
you are planning to settle out in US..then you may not care about these..but still your family and friends are at india..
Else
You would expect a peaceful living atmosphere to live in. Do you think the prevailing situation in India is leading towards that?
default:
Don't you care about the nation where in you were born and brought up? The nation that gave you the education?
O.K..O.K...all accepted..what can be done about that?
If I know what to do I would have done it already, why should I blog about this issue? :)
I need your suggestions...
Wait..wait...I also know that I can prepare for IAS..IES and try to correct the root cause...lack of proper education and awareness to all..
Given that your family circumstance do not allow you to quit your present job immediately, what is your idea to improve the situation?
What is your personal plan to improve education and awareness in India?
It is not just the money that will solve the purpose. Even if you give a million dollar to an uneducated poor family, just after a couple of generations all will be gone..Thanks to the politicians and gundas..
What I feel that needs to be done is we should pay personal attention/care/time in addition to money to improve the situation. It might not take a much of your time..Indeed it will be much lesser than the time we spend on orkut, blog and youtube.
We can adapt one street in a neighborhood village and concentrate especially on the children. Rest all will be taken care over a period of 5-6 years.
I request you all to give your valuable suggestions..Please keep in mind that what ever the suggestion you give should be workable by a normal person with a degree and IT job. Sparing about 4 hours per week; about 4-5K INR per month.
Thanks for your time..
